The Ancient Greeks spread wine making around Europe - Modern Greek wines now offer an extraordinary range of styles –delicious reds and whites based on their native grapes and even Retsina has had a make-over !


What is the course about?

This course will introduce you to Modern Greek wines through a tasting of 6 examples including white and red wines.

What will we cover?

A brief summary of ancient Greek wine knowledge
How Modern Greek wines have evolved over the last 50 years
Some of Greece’s native grape varieties and important wine producing regions.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Describe the impact of the ancient Greeks on wine making
Name some of the main grapes and wine regions of Greece.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is open to beginners and those with some knowledge of wine.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is taught through tasting the wines. There will be recommendations for other wines for you to try if you wish.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no other costs – tasting glasses and spittoons will be provided.
You may wish to bring a notebook, pen and water, and possibly some plain crackers to refresh your palate between wines. Please avoid strong perfume or aftershave.
