What is the course about?

Continue to develop your knowledge of technical matters and musical styles. Improve your playing technique so you may concentrate on a smooth and polished performance. Musical styles will include Classical, Spanish, Baroque, Latin, English folk songs.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Melody playing, legato, chordal accompaniment
Knowledge of the fretboard up to fret 12
scales and arpeggios at grade 6
Play solos and as an ensemble
Different tunings eg open G, drop D
The option to perform solos in the class
Analysis of our pieces
Construction of 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th chords.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Read notation up to the 12th fret.
Play a melody with harmonic accompaniment.
Play 3 octave scales and arpeggios.
Play solo and ensemble pieces to a high standard.
Improve left and right hand technique sufficiently to be able to focus on musicality.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed Classical guitar level 3a and b, able to read notation fluently up to at least the 5th fret, and accustomed to appropriate regular guitar practice. You will be able to play melody and chords on the guitar.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

We practice and play together in this online group instrumental class, with some opportunity to play on your own. You will be expected to practise between sessions so there is observable improvement over several weeks.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Play your nylon strung classical guitar. Extensive course materials are supplied also in the google classroom.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

We expect to field an advanced course in the new academic year.
