What will we cover?
- Melody playing, legato, chordal accompaniment - Knowledge of the fretboard up to fret 12 - scales and arpeggios at grade 6 - Play solos and as an ensemble - Use alternative tunings eg open G, drop D - Analysis of our pieces - Construction of 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th chords
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
Read notation up to the 12th fret. Play a melody with harmonic accompaniment. Play 3 octave scales and arpeggios. Play solo and ensemble pieces to a high standard. Improve left and right hand technique sufficiently to be able to focus on musicality.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have completed Classical guitar level 4, or have previously taken the advanced class, able to read notation past the 5th fret, and be accustomed to regular practice and study. You will be able to play melody and chords on the guitar.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
We practice and play together in this group instrumental class, with opportunity for you to play solo. You will be expected to practise between sessions so there is observable improvement from week to week.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Use your nylon strung classical guitar. Extensive course materials and resources are supplied by the tutor for the sessions and in the google classroom.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Continue the academic year by joining ME134B and ME134C.
