What will we cover?
This year, Classics Day will explore the various themes of the British Museum exhibition on Faith and Society in relation to ancient Greece and Rome and enable an in-depth look at the role of faith and religion in a particular well-documented and influential pre-modern society. A series of talks by experts in the field will illustrate aspects such as the cult of divine heroes, places of worship, the spread of different faiths across the ancient empire, ritual practices as well as the presentation of the gods and divinely provoked travels in classical literature. The day promises to be an exciting journey into the mindset of a different, yet similar society, which will inevitably invite comparisons with conventions and attitudes in the modern world.
