CMYK screenprinting workshop

What is the course about?
You will be guided through the complete process of achieving a four-layer CMYK (Cyan, Magento, Yellow, Black) screen print. Learn how to create your own artwork using this fascinating, easy to use, process and leave with your own personal screen print. You will learn the steps in how to prepare images for screenprinting with Adobe Photoshop, how to build screens and learn the vital steps in preparation including coating and exposing. Finally you will learn the printing process, building up your print in layers of colour.
What will we cover?
- Learn basic technique for using halftone patterns and understand why they are used.
- Historical and contemporary use of the process
- Exposure times and exposure methods
- Mixing inks and learning about process colours.
- How to use simple photographs that are effective for CMYK printing
- Some basic Photoshop.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Clean and degrease a screen for printing
- Coat and prepare a screen for printing
- Understand CMYK separations and applying halftones
- Prepare artwork and photographs for CMYK printing
- Printing and registration techniques.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
All welcome, no previous skills required.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Demonstration, examples, practical work, working individually and in small groups, individual tutoring and group
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Yes, a photograph saved onto a memory stick. All other necessary materials will be provided for.

Anne-Marie studied Fine Art at Epsom School of Art & Design and Advanced Printmaking at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art & Design. She has been working with printmaking, drawing, watercolour and mixed media since 1976 and has been involved in art education since 1987 at City Lit College of Adult Education, Central Saint Martin’s School of Art & Design, Bath Spa University School of Art & Design, Norwich School of Art & Design, Havering college of Further & Higher Education, V & A Museum Education department (printmaking workshops,) Morley College of Adult Education. Anne-Marie has exhibited nationally including the Hayward Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, Battersea Arts Centre and internationally at Brooklyn Art Library USA, RAMOMA (Museum of Modern Art Nairobi Kenya,). Publications: Mandy Bonnell & Stephen Mumberson ‘Printmaking on a Budget’; Jane Stobbard ‘Drawing Matters’; Jackie Newell & Dee Whittington ‘Monoprinting’ Teaching forms an integral part of Anne-Marie’s art practice with both often acting as a stimulus for the other.
