What is the course about?

You will explore the craft of radio comedy. We will look at radio monologues and sketches featuring a range of comic characters. This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with any experience from studying improvisation, radio acting, general acting or stand up.
We will explore classic character comedy to give you insights and techniques that you will be able to use to enhance you performance skills. Depending on the needs of the groups there may be potential to devise your own comic character through improvisation and set exercises.

What will we cover?

- Voice and physicality in character portrayal.
- Exploring comic monologues and sketches.
- Delivering comic monologues for radio.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Perform a comic monologue and/or sketch for radio.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

All levels. Some experience of performing would be an advantage, but complete beginners are
welcome.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Speak English fluently and clearly.
• To read a script accurately.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

In the session there will be a mix of exercises, games, improvisation and devising work. You will work in a safe and supportive environment.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your voice and image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring a notebook and pen. All texts and scripts will be provided. You may bring a suitable script that you want to work on.
