Learn how to perform and film comedy sketches and scenes on this intensive course that will explore comedy material for the camera.

Description

What is the course about?

On this course you will perform comedy characters, monologues, scenes and sketches for TV (both single camera and studio sitcom). You will film a comedy scenes in City Lit’s well equipped TV studio. You will work on creating comic characters, performing comic monologues and comedy sketches. You will learn the basics of acting for comedy, sketches, sitcoms, etc.
There may also be the opportunity to devise your own characters through improvisation. This will depend on the
needs of the group.

What will we cover?

How comedy sketches and monologues work.
Discover a range of comedy techniques and devices.
Work on a range of comedy scripts for TV and Film.
Leave with a video of your work.

Please note that acting classes by their very nature can involve exercises and the exploration of material that some students may find challenging.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Play effectively with the dynamics between comedy characters.
Perform a comedy sketch or monologue.
Perform in a TV & radio studio environment.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

beginners are welcome, however, some experience of performing stand-up, general comedy, general acting or
improv would be helpful. Writers may also benefit from this course by exploring the performance element. This
course will help you develop your work and enhance your technical skills. And you will meet fellow comedy
enthusiasts.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Communicate clearly in discussion and drama practice.
• Read and respond to a variety of text.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will work in a safe environment with encouragement and support.These sessions will be comprised of a mix of
exercises, games, improvisation and scene work. There may be some potential for devising your own comic
character.


As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You
are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring pen and paper to the sessions. Texts will be provided but you may bring in a copy of a sketch that you
would like to explore.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
