How skilfully do you manage the impression you make on people in online meetings and interviews? Develop your personal effectiveness by looking at voice and body language, assertiveness, sensitive listening, interviewing techniques and communication skills for business meetings. This course will be taught online.

What is the course about?

To improve spoken communication and interpersonal skills online.
To build confidence and to develop personal effectiveness when speaking in meetings and interviews.
The course will be delivered online.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

Developing the skills of rapport through body language and voice.
Speaking up for yourself; presenting yourself with confidence.
Developing a presence as a communicator; engaging your listeners.
Influencing; building trust; overcoming objections.
Sensitive listening. Responding to criticism. Meeting skills.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Build a positive relationship through rapport.
Be aware of how body language enhances self-presentation.
Develop vocal energy.
Speak up for yourself with confidence.
Recognise barriers to communication; listen sensitively.
Handle negative criticism about performance.
Put your point across effectively at a meeting.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students whose first language is not English need to be fully competent in speaking and listening, reading and writing in English.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Speak English fluently.
• Communicate in group situations.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and respond to a range of texts.
• Take course notes for your own use.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course will be delivered online and will comprise talks, discussion, simulations, role play and observation, with opportunity for group feedback and evaluation.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.
