The course is about bringing more dynamics and clarity to your quality of expression. An opportunity to let go, and explore movement and dance in a more heartfelt and engaging manner, focusing on using varying levels of energy, drive, texture, feeling and strength. Focus is placed on expressing yourself through the body, using a range of engaging music. This is an approach to dance that will invigorate mind and body, leaving you feeling full of bounce and flow.
What will we cover?
We will cover different warm-up approaches including mobilising and isolation of body parts, strengthening, stretching, and balancing exercises, then move into dance sequences that will engage rhythm, coordination and traveling in space. You will also learn how to impact your movement with greater dynamics, flow and expression. Some sessions will involve creative explorations to give you the opportunity to explore and connect to the way your body responds to moving within a range of different dance styles.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
Demonstrate how to adapt to different dance styles
Recognise the relationship between rhythm and movement
Improve your stamina, coordination, balance, confidence, musicality, posture, breathing and general body strength.
Move and express your body with more freedom and ease
Perform a set dance sequence with more ease, confidence and control.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
The course is for any level of experience: beginners in dance, and people with experience in moving or dancing.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to: • Follow spoken instructions • Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance. • Work within groups and pairs safely.
A beginner’s dance class isn’t just for newcomers. In any beginner’s dance class there will be student’s from all types of backgrounds. We all have different learning techniques and paces. If your first class seems overwhelming and you can’t get it the first time, don’t worry: dance is heavily reliant on repetition so it will happen. We want you to learn and to have fun so just give it your best and keep coming back!
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Group work in a well equipped, modern sprung floor studio with music. It is essential to be ready to start on time.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Bare feet or anti-grip socks should be used except in exceptional cases to be discussed with the teacher. It is recommended to tie hair back if it is long for safety and comfort and to wear short or long-sleeved tops for the floor work.
