On this lively and communicative-focussed course you will continue to develop your Danish speaking skills.
What will we cover?
We will discuss topics such as health and wellbeing, visiting the doctors, Danish news and current affairs and Danish work culture. Focus will be on helping students to express and talk about their own interests and opinions. Sources are contemporary and will include videos, news reports, blogs, works of literature and texts from a workbook.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- speak about illnesses and health in Danish - discuss news items and articles - confidently navigate situations in which you don't understand without switching to English - start to recognise the difference between careful/citation speech and casual/connected speech
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You need to have completed Danish 2 upper: module 3 or equivalent. Students should be able to hold a conversation about everyday situations to an intermediate standard, read everyday instructions in simple, everyday Danish. They should also have a good knowledge of present, simple past and future tenses.
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun, subject and object.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Materials TBC by tutor during first session of the course.
