Power BI is a Microsoft Product that is free to download and use, it allows to connect, transform, and visualize data.This can be done in Microsoft Power BI Desktop application or in Excel using Power Query and Power Pivot. The formulae language used in Power BI is called DAX: Data Analysis Expressions. Learning the basics of this language is crucial to be able to create dynamic reports. In this course, you will discover the world of Power Query and Power Pivots by learning the most basic but crucial functionalities of these environments including basic DAX functions.

What is the course about?

This is a practical course that introduces you to modelling & reporting with Power BI, using the Power BI application or in Excel. You will learn how to connect to multiple data sources and combine them into a data model that lets you build visuals and reports for business intelligence projects.
This course is not about building Visuals and Dashboards, but rather creating the functions and measures that would be used for visuals, whether that is in the form of charts or matrix reports.

If you have never used Power BI (first-time user),before you attend this course, you must attend the following online, free training provided by Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/videos.
Please note that Microsoft Power BI Desktop works on Windows OS but not supported/does not work on Apple/Mac for now.

Participants who will attend the full course will receive a City Lit certificate of attendance electronically for their CV or CPD records. The certificate will show your name, course title and dates of the course you have attended.

You can choose to attend this course either live online or in person.
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for beginners. But you must have an advance level in Pivot Tables. If you have never used Power BI (first-time user), before you attend this course, you must attend the following online, free training provided by Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/videos.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Power BI functionality and skills will be covered in class with practical examples. Students will need to practice what they learned after each class.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no other costs. You will need to have Microsoft Excel installed on your computer, preferably 2016 or later. You will have to download Power BI Desktop from Microsoft website on your computer (it s free). Also, you will be shown in the beginning of the course how to activate Power BI Add-Ins in Excel.
