What is the course about?

This is a taster course to one of the most important ancient languages: the language of Homer, of historians and philosophers. Its literature inspired people for centuries and is still read and studied today.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

The Greek alphabet and the basic rules of the Greek sentence
Elements of Greek philosophy
Principal themes in poetry & drama
Key terms in literary appreciation.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- read and speak several Ancient Greek words
- identify several English words derived from Greek.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a taster course. You do not need any particular skills.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Lecture followed by Q&A. Linguistic and grammatical concepts will be touched upon.
