What is the course about?
Through demonstration and simple practical exercises this course will provide an intensive and stimulating introduction to some of the possible uses of the versatile iPad. Our focus will be on the practice of painting and drawing as facilitated by the “Brushes” software that David Hockney used to great effect in his recent retrospective. X.
What will we cover?
Traditional ideas such as line, gesture, tone and basic colour theory will be explored in the digital medium and the idea that the iPad can be used a digital sketch book.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
• Develop images imaginatively using line, tone, gesture, and simple colour in digital form
• Use images from the built in camera as a starting point for development
• Explore the potential of the IPad as a digital sketch book.
• Use your iPad to explore, develop and create ideas from the imagination and from images taken with the built in camera.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
No experience is necessary.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Concepts and ideas explained and demonstrated. Students will be given practical exercises to complete and encouraged to experiment.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You must bring your own iPad with the Brushes Redux app and a stylus if you have one.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
You can develop your expertise by joining one or our 'Drawing and painting on your iPad 'courses, of which we offer one in each term.
