What is the course about?

This intensive course is an introduction to drawing where you will progressively acquire skills starting with mark making and moving on to observational drawing. Using a range of drawing materials, you will learn to use line and tone to create compositions from observation. This course will give you a foundation in the basic drawing skills, enabling you to advance to more complex drawing challenges.

What will we cover?

- Drawing in line/mark making
- Tonal drawing
- Composition
- Use of different materials
- Basic observational drawing.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Make a series of drawings of different subjects using different methods and approaches
- Draw using a variety of materials
- Gain increased accuracy and confidence in line drawing
- Compose a drawing
- Draw using a range of tones (light and dark).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a basic drawing course, ideal for those without much experience or for students in a different visual art field wanting to improve their drawing. This course is also suitable for those who would like to refresh existing drawing skills.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

One to one tuition, group exercises, group discussion, question and answer and slide shows.
No compulsory homework will be set.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All basic drawing materials are included in the cost.
The tutor can give advice about where to buy art equipment once class starts if you would like to purchase your own kit.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Luke Jones

Luke Jones is a practising artist working in both 2D and 3D, he studied at Chelsea school of art and Norwich School of art (currently called NUA) He has always been fascinated by observational art both in 2D, drawing and painting mostly in oil paint and in sculpture, mostly working with clay modelling and simple casting processes Portraits and figures are the central subjects to most of my current output I’ve undertaken portrait commissions both in paintings and sculptures and I have also worked with theatre making sculptures for a stage play
