What is the course about?

For able drummers who want to take their playing further and to build confidence in musical ability, in a supportive group class. Practise a variety of styles including Rock, World Music, Jazz, Reggae and Funk with confidence, control and authenticity.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

- Contemporary rock, jazz, funk, and world music styles
- Establishing a good practice routine
- Developing coordinated independence to enable a solid technique
- Improving stick control through a sound understanding and application of rudiments
- Tunes from the Rockschool grade 8 syllabus
- Sight reading
- How to use a wide variety of drum books effectively.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Develop and sustain a sound practice routine away from class
- apply rudimental technique to the drum set in a creative way
- Play a wide range of different styles with the correct 'feel'
- Play drum charts accurately
- Demonstrate improved coordinated independence.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

For players who have successfully completed prevoius editions of Drumming advanced, and drummers with equivalent level of technical competence e.g. play paradiddles at 80bpm, establish a groove for rock, Latin, funk and swing.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Learning as a group, using your own electronic or acoustic kits, playing together and solo
Tutor demonstrations; recorded and youtube samples will support your learning
Playing by ear, and using notation of various kinds
Learning grooves by ear and from notation
Students are encouraged to create a forum to share knowledge, to film examples in class, and to keep a record of their learning. E learning is built in to this course.
Please expect to dedicate time to practise between classes: there will be homework focusing on specific skills, and you should be prepared to devote time to general study of the instrument.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You'll need a full acoustic or electronic kit for these live classes on zoom.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Continue your study with this tutor when the next edition of drumming advanced is scheduled.
