What is the course about?

Build on your basic knowledge of the Dutch language and gain further insight into life and customs in the Netherlands and Dutch-speaking Belgium (Flanders). This course covers modules 2 and 3. It is therefore necessary to do a minimum of 2 hours weekly homework.

What will we cover?

The topics include some of the following:arranging to meet, food and drink , shopping, buying and comparing things.

By the end of this course you should be able to...

  • Planning arrangements (Chapter 5)
  • Menus and restaurants (Chapter 6)
  • Dutch foodsand mealtimes (Chapter 7)
  • Supermarket and other shopping and recipes (Chapter8)
  • Buying and selling and comparingthings(Chapter 9)
  • Grammar: present tense verb forms, word order, singular and plural nouns, comparative and superlative adjectives, imperatives, conjunctions, prepositions

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Near-beginners course - students should have completed Dutch beginners : modules 1 or an introduction or have an equivalent knowledge of the language.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

This course is based on the digital version of the book Contact! Nieuw chapter 5-9 and tutor’s own materials where needed.

For the purpose of this course, a license-only, digital book is sufficient. The renewal license is € 32,95 and is valid for 14 months.
