What is the course about?
Experiment and combine a variety of textiles to create expressive embroidered brooches. In this textiles-based
workshop you will create a tactile brooch with fabric remnants and colourful embroidery threads. You will learn how
to hand-sew, collage and embroider textile remnants.
What will we cover?
You will see and handle samples of textile collage and embroidered samples and brooches. After viewing practical
demonstrations from your tutor you will take part in practical workshops in both morning and afternoon sessions.
You will create small fabric collages and freestyle embroidery patterns and textures. You will learn how to transform fragments of fabrics into small embroidered textile brooches through hand-sewing and simple embroidery stitches.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Learn how to create colourful collages with a variety of textile materials
- Experiment with textiles through simple hand embroidery to create colour combinations
- Make a series of fabric collages and embroidery stitches
- Create at least one finished piece of embroidered textile jewellery.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This informal workshop is suitable for all levels who have good hand dexterity. Remember to bring your reading
glasses if you require them to view close details.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be shown examples embroidered textile samples and finished jewellery to handle. Your tutor will provide
group and individual re-cap of demonstrations as required throughout the day. You will have one-to-one guidance as
needed. You will also take away an illustrated handout and materials list to continue practice in your own time
beyond the workshop.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All essential materials and sewing tools will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own sewing kit, collection of cords, threads, knitting yarns and fabric remnants, particularly from clothing that is no longer worn or any off-cuts
