What is the course about?

This course will help you use English for everyday life and work. You will practise:

· speaking, listening, reading and writing

· asking and answering questions using present, past, and future tenses

· talking and writing about daily life

· describing and comparing people, objects and pictures

· listening for key information in short conversations

· writing short formal and informal emails or letters

· using capital letters, commas, full stops and question marks

· spelling everyday words

· filling in simple forms

· reading and understanding short texts

What will we cover?

You will learn English to help you join in social life, talk at work, and express yourself better. Topics include:

· life in the UK

· daily routines

· health and food

· jobs

· shopping

· transport

· different cultures and countries

· short and simple news stories

 

You will practise:

· asking and answering questions in different tenses

· talking and writing about daily topics

· describing and comparing things

· listening for details in everyday conversations

· writing short messages, emails and letters

· punctuation and spelling

· completing simple forms

· reading short texts and understanding the main message

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

use English to talk with friends and colleagues, shop, travel, and more

· ask and answer questions using different tenses (present, past, future)

· describe and compare things and pictures

· listen for important details in short conversations

· write short emails and letters (formal and informal)

· use punctuation correctly (capital letters, commas, full stops, question marks)

· spell common words correctly

· fill in simple forms

· find and understand information in short texts

 

You will also improve your digital skills using:

· Google Classroom

· the internet

· Microsoft Word

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an elementary Entry 2 (A2) level course. It’s for learners who can already ask and answer simple questions, follow instructions, and write short paragraphs. You need to do a short test before joining.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a friendly and supportive class. You will work alone, with a partner, in small groups, and as a whole class. You will do activities that help you practise real-life skills like problem-solving, making decisions, and working with others. This will also include fun and engaging activities that include games, watching videos, listening to audios and using social media and technology. Your tutor will support you and help you improve.

You will need to do homework every week and use Google Classroom.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring:

· a pen

· a lined A4 paper notepad or notebook

· a folder for your work

Your tutor will give you worksheets, other materials and a code to join Google Classroom.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

This course has three parts, and you will normally complete each part over three terms. After completing all three parts, you can move to ESOL Entry 3.
