Do you need to develop your English for work? Would you like to work in an office? Join this course and learn the English skills you need to be confident in the main areas of office and administrative work including: sounding confident and professional on the phone and in person, taking and organising notes, writing clear and concise formal and informal emails and letters on a PC, writing reports, spelling, punctuating and using grammar well.

What is the course about?

This course will enable you to work in an office as a receptionist, administrator or in customer care. You will learn the English you need to be able to do your job well: how to answer and make calls, speak to customers and work colleagues, how to sound professional, take part in and lead meetings, write formal and informal emails and letters to clients and work colleagues, and how to spell common words at work. You will develop your digital skills so you can be confident in using a computer and use it to make sure your English is correct.

What will we cover?

• the main skills and language you need to work in an office or as a receptionist, administrator or in customer care
• the language needed to answer and make phone calls professonally
• how to be concise and to the point in meetings and in writing
• how to sound confident and professional
• how to organise your notes
• how to write formal and informal emails and letters on your PC to clients and work colleagues
• how to write reports on your PC
• how to spell well
• how to punctuate and use grammar correctly
• how to use functions in Word 2016 to make sure your English is correct
• how to deal with difficult situations and complaints
• how to get your point/ideas across effectively.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is for students of English atLevel 1-Level 2. It is aimed mainly at fluent English speakers who want to be more confident and articulate in their speaking, listening, reading and writing at work. It will be particularly useful if you are working in an office or would like to do that. It would be helpful to have some basic digital skills e.g. simple word processing and use of email.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This will be a dyanamic, practical and interactive course with lots of practice including role play. Office situations will be created to help prepare you. You will need to do some study outside the classroom to get the most from this course.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs but you should bring a pen, paper and folder to class.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

There are many courses you could do next or at the same time. You could do the Functional Skills Level 1 course or Getting Ready for English Language GCSE. You could also do Write with Confidence.
