    Evening, ONLINE
Course start date:  Tue 19 Oct 2021

Understanding data, producing it and making decisions based on it are now essential skills for everyone both inside and outside work. Most of us are doing this every day without realising. This course will help you understand and interpret data such as "people make between 1 to 18 calculations each day, with a mean of 3." You will focus on what data is, why it is important, what to use it for. You will learn about different types of calculations, how to use measurements accurately plusidentifying and presenting data patterns. By the end of the course you will have developed the key mathematical, numerical and analytical skills you need to use and make sense of important data at work, in the news and in your daily life. Please note, this course is for students who are around pre-GCSE level or who have gained maths qualifications but haven't used maths for a long time.

  2. How to think in maths: problem-solving, analysing, making decisions (L1+)
Course start date:  Tue 1 Mar 2022

Location on this date:  KS - Keeley Street

How are you going to improve or refine your maths? Will this happen by simply applying the rules your teacher gives you? How will you know that you really understand the maths you are doing? On this course, you will practise thinking mathematically. You will work on 'rich' tasks where you need to problem-solve, ask the right questions and think your way through conundrums, puzzles and other issues requiring mathematical approaches. The problems and their solutions will drive the maths. You will become absorbed by the issue and, with your tutor's support, you will improve your ability to analyse, approach situations with a mathematical mind and make effective decisions both inside and outside work.

This course is FREE if a) you are on a Low Wage or b) you are either on Jobseekers' Allowance (JSA) or Employment & Support Allowance(ESA) or c) you receive other state benefits (including Universal Credit). For more information click here
