What is the course about?

In this course you will explore how to bring a kinder and more mindful attention to yourself, and practise directing your attention through slow and gentle movements and with some mindfulness meditations. These will help strengthen the brain to become more focused and sustain attention, which can lead to greater awareness. We will explore how to set intentions with a sense of openness, curiosity and gratitude. This course helps you navigate more comfortably through the ebbs and flows of life.
This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart
phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.

What will we cover?

Feldenkrais method, mindfulness, how to sit with more comfort, breathing, awareness, wholeness, wise effort, equanimity, embodiment and mindful pauses.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Recognise your own behavioural and movement habits
- Develop more awareness and wholeness through the Feldenkrais method
- Identify ways to ease unnecessary effort and tension
- Practise sequences of movement and some mindfulness meditations.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Everyone is welcome, no previous knowledge or experience is needed. However you should be able to get down on the floor and up again independently. If you have a disability or health concern, please contact the Health and Lifestyle department in advance. You should be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This course is based on experiential learning and is verbally led. The tutor guides you through some slow and small movement sequences and mindfulness meditations. The movements are explored at your own pace and comfort with regular mini-rests. Many of the movements will be done lying on the mat. The Mindfulness meditations can be explored in sitting or lying down. The tutor may give some short presentations on relevant topics.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No. Wear is comfortable and loose clothing. The movements are gentle so you need to make sure you will be warm enough for the duration of the workshop, as your body temperature may drop.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You can enrol on any Feldenkrais or Mindfullness courses or any other movement courses from the Health and Wellbeing programme.

Charoltte is a movement and mindfulness teacher with over 12 years of experience. She says 'Over 25 years I've explored different movement disciplines and therapies. Throughout the years, one particular method stood out from all the others, the Feldenkrais Method - a way of healing and learning through movement. It resonated with my aspirations for awareness, healing, learning and resilience. The people I teach are from all walks of life. I offer a variety of classes e.g Feldenkrais, Mindful Pilates and Pilates Bones & Balance and workshops in different settings from the NHS, adult education, the local community and corporate wellness. I also offer individual movement lessons and Feldenkrais hands-on Functional Integration. To maintain my own wellbeing, on-going learning and curiosity, I have a regular movement and mindfulness practice. I also swim and walk as well as receiving mentoring in the Feldenkrais method and Mindfulness.' Qualifications: Feldenkrais Practitioner, Pilates Foundation teacher, Postural Stability Instructor and Mindfulness for Stress and Health (Breathworks). BA Social Anthropology and Economics.
