What is the course about?

This course helps you improve balance and coordination through gentle, mindful movements, discovering how your head, trunk, and body naturally align with gravity for easier, safer, and more confident everyday movement.

What will we cover?

Balance, breathing, coordination, groundedness, uprightness, basic anatomy and spatial awareness.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Refine balance, coordination, and spatial awareness to move with more comfort and confidence in daily life.
- Explore new ways to move with ease through gentle, mindful movement.
- Develop head and trunk alignment for better uprightness.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Everyone is welcome, no previous knowledge or experience is needed. However you should be able to get down on the floor and up again independently or with the support of a chair. If you have a disability or health concern, please contact the Health and wellbeing department in advance. You should be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

Please contact your GP for advice if you have any health conditions which may impact on your participation in the course. In addition, please ensure that you tell the tutor about any conditions or concerns at the start of the course.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This course is based on experiential learning and is verbally led. The tutor guides you through some slow and small movement sequences, inviting you to pay attention to the sensations in your body. The movements are explored at your own pace and comfort with regular mini-rests. Many of the movements will be done lying on the mat. There may be an opportunity for some pair work. The tutor may give some short presentations on relevant topics. You’ll also have access to Google Classroom for at least six weeks after the workshop, giving you time to revisit the learning resources at your own pace.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

g a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson, some learners may experience a drop in body temperature, so please wear layered, warm, and comfortable clothing.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

The Feldenkrais Method can be used to enhance your performance in activities such as dance, drama, music, singing, pilates, yoga, Tai Chi, work and everyday life.

Charlotte Seirberg

Charlotte is a passionate somatic movement and well-being educator with over 17 years of experience. She is committed to fostering self-awareness and self-compassion through movement and trauma-informed practices, to promote healing, self-discovery, and personal growth. In essence, Charlotte helps individuals become more in tune with their own bodies and emotions, which allows them to reconnect better with themselves and foster deeper connections with others. Charlotte works with people from all walks of life in various settings, including the local community, adult education, the commercial sector, and previously the NHS. She offers classes in the Feldenkrais Method®, Mindful Pilates, Balance & Strength for seniors, and specialised workshops, as well as individual Feldenkrais hands-on Functional Integration sessions in the city. In the field of somatics, she has completed training in Pilates, Mindfulness and the Feldenkrais Method® and foundational training in developmental trauma and Focusing created by Eugene Gendlin. Currently, she is undertaking a three-year Somatic Experiencing® training program created by Peter Levine.
