What is the course about?
Learn essential techniques, language and repertoire for flamenco guitar.
What will we cover?
Play flamenco chords, scales and rhythms. Understand the cadences and subtleties of the flamenco guitar.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Play falsetas - riffs - in the rhythms of Slea, Bulerias and Seguyrilla.
Recognise flamenco guitar cadences.
Improve your technique and motor skills on the guitar.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You need to have a good working knowledge of arpeggios, scales and chords : major and minor in the first position.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught to play flamenco guitar in a group. The tutor will address individual needs and requests. You will be given notation and tab scores to read. You will also be asked to memorise the riffs taught in the lessons.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Bring a classical or flamenco guitar. Music materials will be supplied. Bring a device to record parts of the sessions.

Born in Granada, Ramon Ruiz is one of the UK’s leading flamenco guitarists. He performed for five years at 'Los Gallos Tablao' (considered in the 90s as the most authentic flamenco club in Seville), alongside renowned flamenco guitarists, singers and dancers including Rafael Rodriguez, Israel Galvan, Isabel Bayon, Segundo Falcon many of whom are regulars at the Sadlers Wells flamenco festival. Since moving to London Ramon has recorded four albums, performed for BBC Radio 3 and many top end and West End venues including the Royal Albert Hall. He is currently arranging music for BBC Radio 4, music production libraries and collaborations with other artistic projects.
