Come and learn some songs! This second term of study will suit you if you are a beginner with experience of tuning up, and know note names up to the fourth fret, and can play basic folk chords shapes. Continues to 1c next term.


What is the course about?

Revision of material, concepts and techniques covered in guitar 1a : basic guitar technique, notation and chord symbols, fretboard technique, strumming and picking patterns, negotiating chord changes, learning songs and playing in time.

What will we cover?

Each week a particular area of guitar technique and musicianship will be explored through carelly chosen songs and exercises.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

enjoy renewed confidence in accompanying songs
have refreshed your understanding of and skills on the instrument
play with confidence: chords, finger-picking, strumming, rudimentary scales.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

For players who have completed 1a. You should be able to play the major chords E, A, D, G, C, and E minor, A minor. You understand chord boxes. You should be able to keep 4/4 time strumming down on crotchet beats.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

During the course, emphasis will be on playing and listening together. You will mainly be taught through large group work, following your tutor's demonstration, with the opportunity for some individual attention. Practice between classes is essential to your progress.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Bring your acoustic guitar. All music materials will be supplied.
