What is the course about?
Explore folk styles and repertoire, traditional and contemporary. Learn a range of vocal techniques to support your singing.
What will we cover?
Singing technique, folk songs and tunes, group singing and solo singing.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Perform with confidence.
Be able to interpret folk songs and present them.
Demonstrate an understanding of ornamentation, use of tone, phrasing and variation
Develop musical skills through learning by ear.
Present a variety of songs as a soloist in class.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
It is important that you are able to sing in tune and in time in order to benefit from this course. We welcome singers with a range of experience.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will sing as a group, and individually. There will be tutor demonstration, constructive criticism on your efforts, and performances in class.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All materials supplied. You may find it useful to record sections of your sessions.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
There are singing courses in a variety of styles, so you could do more folk singing, but also follow classical, ensemble, pop or jazz singing courses.
