What is the course about?
Practise lipreading short exercises, backed up with explanations of lipreading theory where appropriate.

Exercises will cover a variety of lipshapes.

feel more confident lipreading basic lipshapes.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This will be a mixed ability class, aimed at people with an acquired hearing loss. No previous experience of lipreading or lipreading classes is necessary. You will use spoken English to communicate with others. Straightforward sentences are used in exercises and on the board to confirm spoken words.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
In class there will be group work, pair work and tutor demonstration.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
There are no materials or extra costs. You will find it helpful to bring a pen, notebook and A4 folder for handouts.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
You may wish to move on to one of our ‘Lipreading and managing hearing loss’ classes. You may also be interested in our short courses such as ‘Assertiveness and hearing loss’ and ‘Alexander Technique workshop for hard of hearing people’. The tutor can advise you at the end of your course.
