Description

What is the course about?

This course aims to further improve your intermediate French, at a gentle pace. You will build up your confidence by learning the language gradually with the emphasis on speaking and listening. You will move from basic language skills towards fluency and the course will give you a greater insight into French life and culture.

What will we cover?

Topics: these will vary according to the group’s needs and interests, but will generally include: exchanging personal information, talking about your interests and experiences, giving your opinion.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Exchange information about yourself and others

- Relate an experience or anecdote using the appropriate tenses

- Express your opinion and react to other people’s opinion

- Use object pronouns more confidently

Please note that the above outcomes are flexible as the pace of the lessons will depend on the achievements of the group of students.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed French 2 upper at a gentle pace or have done 3 years of French recently.
It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation. It would be helpful if you had knowledge of more intermediate grammar terminology such as:subjunctive, conditional and pronouns.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is essentially based on the communicative approach, without seeking to devalue the traditional methods some students may be more familiar with. Great importance is attached to the creation of a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where everyone feels able to contribute. This means:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The course is mainly based on the tutor's own materials. The tutor will advise you on a course book at the beginning of the term if necessary. Please note that the course book is used as a support only. You will not cover all the activities in the book during the course.
