What is the course about?

This is an intensive and stimulating opportunity to revise grammatical structures and expand vocabulary while reinforcing your speaking and listening skills.

What will we cover?

There will be topics such as the environment and current affairs using authentic material. You will also have the opportunity to recap on complex grammar points such as the conditional, the subjunctive or pronouns.

However, these will be negotiated with the tutor according to students' needs at the beginning of the course.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- scan and analyse newspaper articles

- express opinions using different registers of the language

- feel more confident using complex grammar in context

N.B: the progress and pace of the classes are determined by the needs of the students.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Intermediate: suitable if you have studied French for 4/5 years recently or completed French 3 lower or French 3 upper. We strongly recommend that you contact the languages office in order to have your level assessed. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
