This course will be delivered online. However, a mock exam will take place on Saturday 25th February 2023 at our central London college. You will therefore need to make sure that you make the necessary arrangements so that you can attend on that date.

The official exams will also take place at our Covent Garden college during the months of May and June (exact dates to be confirmed).

* Please note that, subject to government guidance, we might need to implement a contingency plan to be followed in the event of exam cancellations.

We also offer a revision course starting in June (LF490 French 3/4: Revise and consolidate) to help you prepare and get more information about the A level course.

What is the course about?

To prepare students to sit the GCE Advanced Level modular examination with 4 exam modules (AQA) in May / June 2023. The syllabus aims to further develop all 4 language skills and to equip students to use the language for practical communication at an advanced level.

This is a live online course. You will need:

- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

A wide range of themes and contemporary issues in France and French-speaking countries will be used as a basis for general language work. Several topics will be dealt with in some depth, related to society and culture. The examination consists of listening, reading, oral, translation and written papers. There is also a specialist topic essay paper.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- communicate with greater confidence in French
- write more accurately in French
- compare/contrast aspects of French and English civilisation
- demonstrate an extended knowledge of the grammatical structures of French
- sit the A-Level examination with confidence.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Please book an interview by contacting languages:

Students should have a good intermediate level of French. They should be fluent (not rusty) and have a solid grasp of grammatical structures and vocabulary. Please note that a GCSE level is not high enough for this one-year course. Interviews will be held on 18th July and 5th September. Please check the website for details and book early as places are limited.

Active participation is expected and regular homework should be done to enable the tutor to give you feedback.

It is also essential that you have knowledge of more complex grammar terminology such as: the past tenses, the future tense, the subjunctive, the conditional, pronouns.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.

You will need to complete homework assignments on a regular basis.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
