What is the course about?

Designed as an intensive course, this programme helps you build confidence as you start using French while discovering the French‑speaking world. Language structures and vocabulary are introduced step by step, with a strong focus on speaking and listening alongside all four skills.

What will we cover?

Topics covered include personal information and introductions, as well as food and drinks in everyday situations.

Language focus includes subject pronouns; definite and indefinite articles; the present tense of être and avoir; the present tense of regular ‑er verbs; question words; masculine and feminine adjectives; negative forms; numbers up to 100; jobs and nationalities; useful classroom language and everyday expressions; and an introduction to French sounds and pronunciation.

Cultural content introduces learners to famous French figures and explores the experiences of French people living abroad.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

  • alk about yourself using simple French
(e.g. Je m’appelle Anna. J’habite à Londres. Je suis ingénieure.)

  • Understand simple information when others talk about themselves
(e.g. understanding Je travaille dans un bureau et je vis à Paris.)

  • Ask simple questions about other people
    (e.g. Comment tu t’appelles? D’où viens‑tu? Qu’est‑ce que tu fais?)

  • Order food and drinks in a café
(e.g. Je voudrais un café et un croissant, s’il vous plaît.)

  • Recognise common French sounds and basic pronunciation patterns
(e.g. nasal sounds such as on, an, in, and silent final letters)

Please note that learning outcomes may vary depending on the general progress made by the students.
