What is the course about?

This practical progression course moves beyond writing individual prompts to designing reliable, responsible ways of using generative AI in real-world contexts.

You will learn how to structure AI workflows, evaluate outputs critically and apply good practice when using tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot and Claude in professional settings. The course introduces key ideas around accountability, risk and decision-making, while staying firmly grounded in hands-on application.

By the end of the course, you will be able to move from one-off prompting to building repeatable, trustworthy AI-supported processes for your own work or area of interest.

What will we cover?

  • Moving from prompts to structured AI workflows
  • Designing repeatable processes using generative AI tools (no coding required)
  • Evaluating and improving AI outputs (accuracy, tone, bias, reliability)
  • Recognising the limits of prompt optimisation
  • Accountability and responsibility when using AI in professional contexts
  • Identifying risks in AI-assisted tasks (e.g. bias, misinformation, over-reliance)
  • Creating simple frameworks for responsible AI use in everyday work
  • Good practice setting: checklists, guardrails and decision points
  • Designing AI use for workplace or regulated environments

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

  • Design simple, repeatable AI workflows for practical tasks
  • Critically assess and improve outputs from generative AI tools
  • Apply structured approaches to ensure quality and reliability
  • Identify where human judgement is required in AI-assisted work
  • Understand and manage common risks in AI use
  • Create a basic “good practice” framework for your own context
  • Use generative AI more confidently and responsibly in professional settings

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an intermediate course suitable for learners who have completed a beginner-level course in prompt engineering or have equivalent experience using generative AI tools.

In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:

  • Write and refine prompts using tools like ChatGPT or Copilot
  • Use a computer confidently to access online platforms
  • Reflect on your own work and give/receive constructive feedback
  • Bring examples of tasks from your own area of interest or work (optional but recommended)

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a highly practical course combining tutor-led demonstrations, guided exercises, and hands-on activities. You will work on real-world scenarios and may apply the learning to your own professional or personal contexts.

You may be encouraged to experiment with AI tools outside of class and bring examples for discussion.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs. You may wish to bring a laptop or tablet to explore tools during the session.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You may wish to explore more advanced courses in AI, digital skills, or professional development, including topics such as AI strategy and ethics, governance, or specialised applications of generative AI.

Vina Theodorakopoulou Tutor Website

Vina Theodorakopoulou teaches at the intersection of technology, business and society, helping learners connect big ideas on economics, innovation and human behaviour to real-world decisions and practical outcomes. With a background in financial and professional services and a PhD in behavioural economics, she brings practical insight into how decisions are made under uncertainty and how systems -from markets to organisations- affect everyday life and work. At City Lit, her courses span topics such as AI and ethics, global capitalism, innovation, sustainability and communication. Across all subjects, she focuses on connecting ideas to practice, encouraging learners to apply what they learn in meaningful and tangible ways. She has a strong interest in global cultures and communication, reflected in her teaching of languages and cultural forms, including Greek dance. She believes learning should open up new ways of thinking about work, culture and how we live — and offer practical value beyond the classroom.
