What is the course about?
In this class, gentle yoga postures are combined with breathing and movement to energise you and help to de- stress the mind and body. Relaxation and meditation are taught and practised. The emphasis is on everybody working at their own pace in a relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere.
What will we cover?
The class will start with breathing, relaxation, and gentle movement exercises to prepare the body and mind for asana / posture practice. The course is progressive, with various options and adaptations provided, and you'll be encouraged to work at your own level, taking rests whenever you need to. Some yoga equipment will be used to support practice.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Perform gentle yoga postures to improve your flexibility, muscle tone, fitness and stamina
- Practise relaxation
- Follow the teacher's instructions
- Combine breathing and movement exercises to de-stress
- Improve your body awareness
- Describe some of the benefits of yoga.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
No prior knowledge or experience of yoga is needed. The postures are gentle and adapted versions are provided. Beginners are very welcome. You will need to be able to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group. If you have any health conditions which may impact on your participation please consult with your GP before booking and ensure that you disclose any conditions to your tutor at the start of the course.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Yoga equipment including mats will be provided. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Postures are performed barefoot but you may wear non-slip socks if you prefer.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Repeat the Gentle Yoga course or take a beginners or mixed level course. Also, continue your practice at home!
Madlyn is an experienced yoga teacher and massage therapist who loves to share the joy and transformative power of yoga with with people of all ages and abilities. Having trained in Hatha and Perinatal Yoga, Madlyn now weaves together strength training, restorative movement, and stretching, in gentle sequences. Madlyn’s classes always include breathing exercises, meditation and deep relaxation. Her compassionate style of teaching encourages students to adapt the practice as needed, and to connect with their breath, move mindfully, and relax deeply. Madlyn teaches for organisations, yoga studios, and gyms, as well as teaching and massaging private clients, and leading yoga retreats. Madlyn is a dedicated mum to 2 kids, a dog and a cat, and is a disability advocate, supporting individuals with complex needs. Courses at City LIt include Mixed Level: Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and online Light weights for everyday strength.
