Description

What is the course about?

Gentle classical Yoga postures will be combined with breathing and movement to energise you and help to de-
stress the mind and body. Relaxation, meditation and visualisation will be learned and practiced. The
emphasis is on everybody working at their own pace in a relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere. Many exercises can be performed with a chair rather than going down on the floor. Contact the department if you are concerned about suitability.

What will we cover?

The class will start with relaxation and joint movement exercises to prepare the body and the mind for the
classical yoga posture practice The course will be progressive and various options and adaptations will be
provided. You will be encouraged to work at your own level, taking rests whenever you need to. You will use some yoga equipment to help you practise.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Perform basic gentle yoga postures to improve your flexibility, muscle tone, fitness and stamina
- Practise relaxation with guidance
- Follow the teacher's instructions
- Combine breathing and movement exercises to de-stress
- Improve your body awareness
- Describe some of the benefits of Yoga.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No prior knowledge or experience of yoga is needed. The postures are gentle and adapted versions are
provided. Beginners are very welcome. You will need to be able to read and write short sentences, follow
verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

- Instructions, explanations, demonstrations, corrections
- Q&As
- Individual practice
- Some pair work.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Yoga equipment including mats will be provided.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Postures are performed barefoot but you may wear non-slip socks if
you prefer.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

- Students will be encouraged to practise the techniques at home
- Students can move up to Beginners Yoga course
- Advice on further activities or courses to suit the individuals level will be provided.

Excellent course and certainly restored my confidence in my ability . The teacher is totally competent and communicates with confidence and ease, hence creating a good atmosphere.

This is an excellent course for people who are new to yoga and have limitations in movement, taught by an experienced, considerate, caring and kind teacher.

The teacher of this course is excellent. The work is varied and tackles all areas of the body and she is very careful to ensure that it is within the capabilities of each person. She makes it really easy by demonstrating mirror image which must be hard

This course has restored my confidence in my ability to do yoga, which I started 35 odd years ago and then stopped in my late 40's as I used to get queasy doing the exercises. I have so enjoyed this course that I have already signed up for the next term. I am hard of hearing and the teacher could not have been more supportive.

Great Class- - [The tutor] is the 'perfect' gentle yoga teacher- she's very experienced- quite gentle in herself, - she is kind and patient with all of her students- which is very needed for this kind of class--- It's a most enjoyable class- and Very welcome- for those that cannot do - even a beginners class - due to personal restrictions.... Tutor Biographies
Biljana Cacic

Biljana was originally trained in the Yoga Body of Light style of Hatha Yoga (www.aurolabyoga.net) in the UK and India, and has been teaching it since 2008. Apart from her main teacher, Sama Fabian, Biljana has been studying and drawing inspiration from a number of prominent teachers from differring Yoga styles and lineages. Biljana offers her students a positive and joyful experience, allowing Yoga to work for each individual. Apart from City Lit, she has taught a wide range of students with mixed skills, abilities and specific needs and within different settings, such as charities, gyms, mental health centres and corporate organisations, as well as her private classes. As a Counsellor, Biljana has always been interested in body-mind connection and the therapeutic aspects of Yoga.
