What is the course about?

Choose either an in-person course in the heart of London or live online sessions. To enable students to discuss and learn about a variety of topics, to practise the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing and to revise grammar. You will read about, listen to and discuss everyday topics, which will enable you to speak more fluently in German as well as being well-informed about life in German-speaking countries.

What will we cover?

A range of different topics will be discussed at this advanced level. The focus is on developing more fluent speaking. Grammar will be consolidated but always embedded in conversation.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

-gain greater fluency and confidence in speaking

-discuss everyday life in German- speaking countries and more abstract issues

-use more complex grammatical structures orally

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have studied German for at least five years (1.5 hours per week) or 3 years (3 hours per week), have a rusty A-level, or an equivalent knowledge of the language. The level within the European framework is B2- C1.1.
For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart at the start of the languages section of our course guide or on our website.
It is also essential that you have knowledge of more complex grammar terminology such as: the subjunctive, the conditional, the dative, the accusative, subordinate clauses and conjunctions

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Based on tutor's own materials.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
