What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have studied German for at least five years (1.5 hours per week) or 3 years (3 hours per week), have a rusty A-level, or an equivalent knowledge of the language. The level within the European framework is B2- C1.1. Tim is a bi-lingual native of Nuremberg - or Nürnberg - Germany. After a varied career in higher education he left management to pursue his interest in languages and become a teacher of German and English. He also has an academic background in botany, biology and science communication. Outside work he speaks Spanish, goes to tap dancing classes, loves crosswords, debates, art, cooking, learning, reading novels in English, German and Spanish, and people! You might find him dancing at an open air concert, hiking in the mountains, jogging in the rain, teaching German to a lawyer or a group of 15. In his teaching his focus is always on the people in front of him and making their learning as enjoyable and productive as possible. He loves languages because they help people live life to the fullest.

Always passionate about languages, Tatjana qualified as a secondary school teacher in her native Germany and taught English, French and German at secondary schools in Germany, France and England for several years. When covering a German evening class in adult education over 15 years ago, she was impressed by the students' motivation to learn foreign languages and has been teaching adults ever since. She still enjoys teaching languages to children and teenagers and the variety of working with students of all ages. In her free time, she loves travellling and spending time with friends and family.

Friederike, a native speaker of German, became interested in teaching when she moved to the UK. After a career change, Friederike undertook an MA in Education, and became a qualified teacher in post-compulsory education. As well as having managed language departments, Friederike is experienced in teaching adults from varying backgrounds and levels. Friederike says: “I have gained a greater understanding of my own language through the teaching of German to adults – finding new approaches to best share this knowledge is a continuing journey for me. It is so satisfying to see learners progressing and gaining more confidence, particularly in their speaking skills. Many students have turned their learning into a life passion!’’
Heike Clarke is a German tutor, Chi Kung tutor and Craniosacral Therapist. After completing her MA in English and Spanish Philology and Adult Education in Germany, she moved to London, where she has been a German teacher since 2003. Being a life-long learner, she also tried out many courses at Citylit as a student and developed a passion for Chi Kung. In 2011 she became a Chi Kung teacher. In 2017 she graduated as a Craniosacral Therapist at the CTET where she currently also is an assistant tutor. Heike loves the mixture of her subject areas and to develop her knowledge further and beyond and she loves teaching.
