What is the course about?

Class activities relate to familiar matters regularly encountered at work, leisure or public places and situations that are likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. The grammar structures and vocabulary covered will improve your confidence in providing descriptions, discussing plans, and giving reasons.

What will we cover?

Talk about yourself and others. Why do you learn German? Lifestyle, leisure time and culture. German landscapes and regions. A trip to Berlin.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Give details about yourself and others
Give reasons why you learn German, using subordinate clauses
Talk about your favourite leisure activities and describe your perfect weekend, applying a variety of structures
Describe different landscapes, using a range of adjectives and endings
Talk about sites in Berlin and plan a weekend trip, express likes and dislikes and hypothetical situations.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

B1 Level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Heiner Schenke

Heiner is originally from Hanover in Northern Germany. After finishing his degree and working with young adults in Hamburg, he moved to London where he started working in the further and higher education sector. Heiner has taught German to students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds and was Principal lecturer at the University of Westminster for many years. He has published a number of German books, including the best-selling Willkommen series, grammar books for Routledge and the BBC and various Teach Yourself titles. He now works for Oxford University, City Lit and as a private language consultant and author. He is currently writing a history of his family.
