What is the course about?

This German pronunciation course introduces students to the key sounds of the German language, focusing on both consonants and vowels. Using a phonetically informed approach, students will explore how German sounds are produced and how they differ from English. The course uses guided pronunciation practice, listening exercises, and visual aids to help students develop greater accuracy and intelligibility in spoken German.

What will we cover?

  • The difference between vowels and consonants, and how they are produced
  • The German vowel system
  • German consonants not found in English (e.g., ch, r, pf, ts)
  • How sounds change in context
  • Common pronunciation pitfalls for English speakers
  • Listening exercises to identify subtle contrasts
