What is the course about?
Intensive revision of previous learning from Latin 1 at the City Lit or from an equivalent course. Based on Reading Latin (Cambridge University Press, Second Edition 2016) - a textbook designed for Adult Students, based on original Latin sources.
What will we cover?
Revision of grammar points learned in Sections 1A to 2B of the Reading Latin textbook, or from an equivalent course, including the conjugation of verbs, the declension of nouns and adjectives, etc.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
-read and write simple Latin sentences
-have some insight into the derivation of English words
-have some insight into the world of Rome
-demonstrate basic knowledge of the first two conjugations of verbs
-demonstrate basic knowledge of some declensions of nouns and adjectives.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable if you have completed Latin 1: Module 3 at the City Lit, or have equivalent knowledge of Latin. The course is for revision purposes and to help you to get ready for Latin 2 Module 1. As this course is taught in English, you should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English and also take part in class and group discussions on readings. Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support with your English skills to help you take part fully in this class.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is based on the traditional approach, but aims also at a high level of student interaction with pair and group work. Students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do a limited amount of home-study outside the class.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
