What is the course about?

This course offers an opportunity to discover and improve your yoga postures, breathing and relaxation. Yoga increases body awareness; it improves posture, stamina and flexibility, enhances our quality of breathing and teaches relaxation. You will learn techniques, which help reduce stress in your daily life and make you feel calm and relaxed. Attending a weekly yoga class can improve your general health and wellbeing.

What will we cover?

Over the duration of the course we will be working in a progressive manner, establishing an integrated yoga practice which will include the following:
- Asanas - yoga postures, including seated, standing, supine, inversions (or alternatives)
- Pranayama - different breath practices
- Guided relaxation and visualisation including Yoga Nidra.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Have increased body awareness
- Have improved balance, strength and flexibility
- Learn and practice various breathing techniques
- Describe the benefits of some yoga postures and breathing practices
- Undertake a suitable breathing practice at home.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This class is suitable for students with some yoga experience, regardless of age, gender and fitness level. It is not recommended for complete beginners.
You will need to be able to follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness. You will need to be able to read and write short sentences.

Please contact your GP for advice if you have any health conditions which may impact on your participation in the course. In addition, please ensure that you tell the tutor about any conditions or concerns at the start of the course.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught by:
- Demonstration and practice
- Verbal instructions
- Questions and answers
- Instructions and hands-on adjustments (optional)
- Variations of the practices will be given as required

Although there is no specific work set outside of the class, students will gain most benefit if exercises are performed regularly and practised between classes.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No other costs. Please wear comfortable clothing; all equipment will be provided, but you can bring your own yoga mat, if you prefer.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?
