  13. Ancient Egypt: the reign of Pharaoh Seti I

    Seti I ruled Egypt around 1289 – 1279 BC in the middle of the New Kingdom, Egypt’s age of empire. The country was continuing to recover from the upheavals of the Amarna Period some fifty years earlier. After a series of elderly pharaohs, Seti I came to the throne as an energetic young man, ruling so wisely that he became a role model for his successors. He conducted successful military campaigns and built glorious architecture. Sadly he died after only ten years on the throne.
