Aristocratic rule in Athens is replaced by a new regime (both more and less democratic than we understand the term today!) A glorious decade of cultural and artistic achievement follows with new ideas in art, drama, science, philosophy, medicine, politics and oratory. All this is terminated by the trauma of the Peloponnesian war.
