What is the course about?

This course is to improve your intermediate level of Icelandic.

What will we cover?

Topics include: Media, news and entertainment, health and moods, personal characteristics and professions

Grammar: impersonal verbs, reflexive verbs, adjectives in plural, the subjunctive.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- describe how you feel and know words related to your health
- use a variety of impersonal verbs
- know the plural of adjectives in the nominative case
- read and understand simple news stories
- know words relating to different types of entertainment
- know adjectives describing characteristics
- know vocabulary relating to work and professions
- describe your job in better detail
- read longer texts with more ease.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable if you have studied Icelandic for at least 2 years or have an equivalent level. This is a higher intermediate course.
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.
