What is the course about?

This course builds on an intermediate knowledge of Icelandic, to take students towards an advanced level of the language.

What will we cover?

Topics include: Icelandic people and history, film
Grammar: middle voice, imperative, reflexive pronouns, determiners (e.g. both, all).

By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Express yourself comfortably on a wide range of topics using intermediate grammar and vocabulary.
- Learn about some historical aspects of Icelandic society.
- Discuss interests in film.
- Listen to authentic clips from TV, with vocabulary support
- Read authentic Icelandic written material.
- Watch and discuss short films.
- Understand Icelandic used in different registers, i.e. informal and formal.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have an intermediate vocabulary level, and an active knowledge of all Iceladic foundational grammar. They should be comfortable in expressing themselves, and have the necessary knowledge to conduct lessons in the foreign language.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

- vocabulary- and grammar-based exercises
- pair and group work
- open discussion
- reading/watching authentic Icelandic material

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

If there is enough demand, we will open Icelandic 4 as from September 2018.
