What is the course about?
The technique of intentional camera movement produces images that are a crossover between photography and Art. We will look at how the camera shutter speed, aperture and ISO can be combined to create Intentional blurring of an image for an artistic effect.
What will we cover?
- Intentional camera movements
- ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture
- Composition according to colour, texture and shadows
- Light quality and light direction
- Selecting and editing (Post processing) your images
- Digital printing a final image.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Apply manual exposure to utilize slow shutter speed
- Adjust camera setting white balance and ISO
- Read light quality and light direction and apply it to your own work using
- Identify good subjects and environments to use ICM
- Edit, prepare and print your selected image.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is a course for all levels of experience and can be enjoyed by beginners through to advanced practitioners. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, handouts and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group activities and discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
In a supportive group environment,You will be taught using a range of techniques including demonstrations, small group practical exercises, group and individual assistance, Google classroom hand-outs and image crit. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in the Photography studio. The course also uses Google Classroom (an online teaching resource) for you to share comments with your class, download course material and upload images for group crits.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Please bring a digital camera (with full manual control) with whatever lenses you have. If you do not have a camera you will be provided with one for use during the class. The City Lit has a range of DSLR and mirrorless cameras, tripods, lenses, speed lights and studio lighting (if appropriate to the course) that you are welcome to borrow during the taught hours of the class. We are unable to lend out equipment between taught sessions.

Ed's photographic and award-winning retouching and image-making have received accreditations and awards by all of the above national and international governing bodies mentioned. Teaching and Learning are a massive part of Ed's Life, and he feels it's essential to pass on knowledge. His background in education started in 1998, delivering HNC photography to London Students. Joining the CityLit team was a natural progression that has allowed him to give back some of the fantastic knowledge and experience he has accumulated over his long career.
