In this Talk, Anna Ray will discuss highlights from her career that spans thirty years. Anna has been Artist-in-Residence at the the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and Facebook London Offices, and she exhibited in the seminal exhibition ‘Entangled: Threads and Making’ at Turner Contemporary in Margate.
What will we cover?
Anna’s work is stunning in its variety and each work carries the story of its evolution. She uses hand stitch, machine stitch, painting and digital imaging, developing new techniques for each work. Anna’s French Huguenot ancestors were silk weavers and fancy trimmings manufacturers (Passementeries) living in Bethnal Green in the 18th and 19th centuries, contributing to the world famous Spitalfields silk trade. Anna will share details of her recent work and research which tracks this fascinating family history of making.
