What is the course about?

Dr. Joshua St. Pierre, a professor of political science and Canada Research Chair in critical disability studies, invites you to a thought-provoking event on stammering and belonging. As co-founder of Stuttering Commons, an international collective of academics, therapists, and artists, Dr. St. Pierre aims to disrupt 'fluency privilege' and highlight the generative potential of stammering.

During the event, Dr. St. Pierre will explore the barriers to belonging faced by disability communities and discuss ways to move beyond mere toleration of disabled individuals in society. Following his talk, he will be joined by Sam Simpson and Patrick Campbell for a panel discussion on how people who stammer can find belonging within both the stammering community and wider society.

Sam Simpson is a speech and language therapist, person-centred counsellor, supervisor and trainer living in London, England. Sam has a particular interest in critical disability studies, stammering activism and what stammering can teach us about ourselves and the world.

Patrick Campbell is a stammerer, doctor and academic living in London, England. Patrick is an advocate for stammering and the rights of people who stammer. Patrick regularly writes blogs and articles on stammering.

After the discussion, continue the conversation over a glass of wine in the gallery. This event promises to be an engaging and transformative experience for all attendees.
