New to MS Outlook? Or have you just start using Outlook at work? This course will enable you to use the key basic features of Outlook 2016, including the do's and don'ts of sending and receiving emails, sending and receiving emails with attachments, safe downloading of attachments, adding signatures, creating folders to manage your emails, organising and using your calendar to keep on top of appointments, setting up reminders and creating task lists, staying within the Data Protection Act and your legal obligations.

This course is FREE if a) You are on a Low Wage or b) You are either on Jobseekers' Allowance (JSA) or Employment & Support Allowance(ESA) or c) You receive other state benefits (including Universal Credit)

What is the course about?

This course is for those who want to feel more confident, knowledgeable and skilful in their Outlook 2016 use either for personal or work use. You will learn essential jargon and terminology and use this knowledge to help you become a more proficient user of the program. You will learn how to organise and manage emails, appointments, contacts and tasks and you will learn how to do all this and maintain your security, understanding legal responsibilities as an employer or employee.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

• confidently explain the processes for sending and receiving emails with knowledge of the level of confidentiality needed.
• attach a file or a folder to an email and safely download a file or folder to a folder on you computer that can then be scanned for viruses
• create basic signatures that can be appended to your emails
• manage emails to go directly into designated folders.
• set up reminders and create task lists so you can be up to date with appointments
• explain the security features offered in Outlook when sending and receiving emails
• explain your legal obligation and responsibilities when sending information via emails and the implications of the Data Protection Act.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an introductory course so no prior knowledge of Outlook is needed though if you have used Outlook before at a basic level, this course will also help you. You will need to be confident in basic digital literacy having basic keyboard and mouse skills.

You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a practical hands-on course taught online using Zoom or Google Meet. You will perform tasks in class, which reflect office and work-based activities and be encouraged to practise as much as possible. You will receive regular handouts and information via Google classroom. You will have lots of opportunities to ask questions and address areas you need help in.
You will need your own computer with MS Office, (If you do not have outlook installed the college can provide you with a student version of office 365 which you can download free of charge), a good internet connection and a microphone, the use of a webcam for video is optional. Mac users can also take part in this course but will have to adapt to some keyboard and tab differences. Your tutor will discuss the concepts of all the tools used and will demonstrate their uses. The course will challenge you to become more independent in your learning and less dependent on your notes/hand –outs and work colleagues.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

There are a number of courses you can do at the same time or progress onto. Outlook 2016 for the workplace: managing your emails, tasks and priorities (intermediate) is a direct follow on course, followed by Outlook 2016 for the workplace: integrating Outlook, Excel and Word (advanced). However, you might want to consolidate your digital skills before moving on to these courses. For example:
