What is the course about?
We are all members of families and other systems and these have a profound effect on our lives, sometimes being the source of intractable difficulties and patterns. Systemic family constellations, originally developed by Bert Hellinger, is a powerful, phenomenological method of exploring the hidden dynamics underlying challenging personal issues. A constellation creates a ‘living map’ of the system to be explored and may reveal entanglements or blockages within it. Often a new perspective emerges and may reveal a way forward. (N.B. systemic constellations is not the same as systemic family therapy).
What will we cover?
Experience of several constellations as an issue holder, representative or witness
The systemic field and phenomenological stance
Some basic theory, eg., systemic orders, systemic conscience
Issues that can be helped through constellations.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Describe the constellations method
Understand some basic concepts and theory underpinning the method
Apply some new insights into your own family system.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This workshop is aimed principally at counsellors, psychotherapists and other professionals who are interested in learning about this way of working both for their own personal development and for its potential for their client work.
NB. Given this will quite possibly be an intense two days, with no on-going support on offer, participants need to be feeling fairly robust. If in doubt, please seek advice.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The workshop is largely experiential and you will learn mainly through exercises and taking part in and/ or witnessing some constellations. There will also be some theoretical input, group discussion and time for questions and answers.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
There is no need to bring anything to the course other than yourself. A reading list and handouts will be provided.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
PT553 Hidden Dynamics in the counselling relationship
PT517 Working with differenceand diversity.
