What is the course about?

As you approach the end of your second year of studying Irish, this course is designed to consolidate your progress and build confidence in using the language with increased confidence and enjoyment. Through engaging activities, immersive practice, and cultural exploration, you'll deepen your understanding of Irish grammar and vocabulary while developing greater ease in conversation and comprehension. Whether you're preparing for the next stage of our language learning journey or simply want to enjoy expressing yourself in Irish, this course will support and inspire you every step of the way.

What will we cover?

- Health, body & wellbeing

- Around the house

- Development of present/past/future tenses.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Feel confident using phrases on the topic of body & health

- Express emotions and feelings using clear and simple language

- Have a basic knowledge of useful, practical language for everyday living at home & around the house.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is intended for those who have completed Irish 2: Module 2 or who have studied Irish for over a year. If you are a speaker of Irish who is coming back to the language after a while it may also be suitable. 

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction

- emphasis on speaking and listening skills

- pair and group work

- role plays

- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and complete homework tasks via Google Classroom.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Students can progress to Irish 2 upper: module 1 in September.

William Brady

William Brady is a lecturer at St Mary’s University, Twickenham and is from Dublin. In 2019 he received his PhD in English Literature from Trinity College Dublin and has presented his research in Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Croatia. He writes and lectures on contemporary literature, war writing, and psychogeography. A passionate Gaeilgeoir, he is on the committee of Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain, which promotes and organises events relating to Irish language and culture in London. He is also a contributor to the Nuacht Mhall podcast, which delivers news and current affairs at a gentle pace for learners of the Irish language.
