This in-person course is designed for learners who have completed a beginner-level introduction to Irish and are ready to build on their foundational skills. The course focuses on developing confidence in speaking and understanding Irish through interactive activities and pronunciation practice
What will we cover?
The course will give students the opportunity to develop their speaking and listening skills. It will cover Irish elementary grammar, spelling system, vocabulary and socio-cultural elements of the language.
Discuss Hobbies and Free Time - Caitheamh Aimsire agus Spraoi
You'll develop the vocabulary and conversational skills needed to talk about your interests and how you spend your leisure time. This includes:
Naming common hobbies such as reading (ag léamh), playing sports (ag imirt spóirt), listening to music (ag éisteacht le ceol), and watching films (ag féachaint ar scannáin).
Asking and answering questions about personal interests.
Expressing likes (is maith liom) and dislikes (ní maith liom) using appropriate sentence structures.
Engaging in simple dialogues about weekend plans or daily routines.
Order Food and Drinks - Bia agus Deoch a Ordú You'll gain the confidence to interact in everyday dining situations.
Use key phrases for ordering food and drinks politely (e.g., Ba mhaith liom... - I would like...).
Understand and respond to questions from a server (freastalaí).
Read and understand simple menus in Irish.
Express preferences and make special requests (e.g., gan bainne - without milk).
Learners will be introduced to the past tense in Irish, enabling them to:
Talk about events and activities that happened in the past.
Conjugate regular and some common irregular verbs in the past tense (e.g., chuaigh mé - I went, d’ith sí - she ate).
Construct sentences and short narratives about past experiences.
Ask and answer questions about what they or others did (e.g., Cad a rinne tú? - What did you do?).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is for those who have completed Irish Gaelic beginners module 1, or who have an equivalent knowledge of the language.
