This skills-based course is for upper intermediate learners of Italian and is intended to improve your Italian speaking skills in everyday situations. We will be looking at both formal and informal scenarios, and the aim is to help you to feel more comfortable speaking Italian in order to improve your fluency.

What is the course about?

The course gives upper intermediate* learners of Italian the chance to practice their speaking skills. The teacher will bring new topics to discuss every week and will prompt the conversation with different stimuli such as questions, requests for opinions, and brief exercises. Although grammar is not a focus of this course, the teacher will signal and correct the main mistakes and will be at the students' disposal in case there is a need to clarify some concepts in order to improve learners' accuracy and confidence while speaking.

*Learners who are at a B2 level. In City Lit terms, that would be learners who have completed Italian 3 upper or who have done Italian 4 courses.

- Vocabulary knowledge of different topics, tailored to the interests of the class.

- Discuss a variety of topics in Italian with a broader vocabulary.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is intended for upper intermediate students of Italian. For City Lit students, that will mean students who have completed 3 upper level or who have done Italian 4 courses. You should have studied Italian for at least 4 years.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

If a course book is necessary, your tutor will let you know at the start of the course.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

The tutor will be able to advise you on progression routes based on your progress during the course.
